Goodbye Dad, Hello Robbie

Jennifer's neighborhood--see the streets where she walked her dog!

January 2, 1979

Dear Diary,

"I took my dog on a walk. We went down Laurel Lane and then turned and went down Keenland Court then we turned and went down Hialeah. We passed Julian and there were two dogs. I showed my dog to the mother dog and she tried to bite my dog. Then me and my dog ran home. Today at 5:30 in the morning my dad left to the airport to go back to California."

Jennifer's parents were so cool about visits. This is Jennifer's dad visiting the family at her mom's house in Colorado. Jennifer loved sharing her Colorado life with her dad. He had come out for Christmas, took them skiing and then returned home to California.

Dear Diary,

"Today at school I got an award. My teacher, Miss Crain, changed everybody's desk and I got moved by Robbie. I loved him."

Back to Robbie! The obsession with boys definitely began in Colorado. Jennifer had a hard time making friends. She was in third grade. It seemed everyone already had friends. She lacked the confidence to break in. Her brother, Dan, made friends easily. Loneliness set in deep with her. The diaries were a handy substitute for a BFF!

Where or to who do you confess your deepest thoughts, dreams and secrets?
